【ルワンダ受講生インタビュー】Mediateurさん「僕は政府からも仕事を任されるほどのエンジニアになる！」

ルワンダ受講生のMediateurさんにインタビューいたしました。興味本位で来たDICだが、今では政府から業務委託されるほどのエンジニアになりたいという意気込みを語ってくれました。

2019年7月に開校した、ディープロルワンダ校。ディープロ東京校から代表の野呂とメンターが1名、現地に渡航してプログラミングを教えてきました。

学習が進んで1ヶ月した頃に受講生インタビューを実施！Ntawukuriryayo Mediateurさんにお話を伺いました。

なぜインド人ではなく、日本人が来たのか不思議に思った入校時

ディープロでのプログラミング経験についてお聞かせください。

“How do you feel about the programming experience in ディープロ?”

Mediateurさん「ディープロに入校する以前は、ただただ映画ばかりを見ていました。ある日、僕の友達がやってきて『いいことを考えた、一緒に行こう』と言うんです。それがディープロでした。はじめはただの興味本位で来たのですが、そこで日本の会社であることを知りました。「なんでインドではないんだろう？どんなチュートリアルも、必ずと言っていいほどインド人のビデオがあるのに」と不思議に思いました。

最初はHTML、CSS、JavaScriptを学びましたが、既に知っているものだったので簡単でした。でもRubyに入ってからは、初めての言語だったこともあり、毎日少しずつ自分の成長を感じています。今ではエラーを修正することもできるし、自分の趣味のひとつになっています。ここを卒業するまでに、多くのことを吸収していきたいです。」

Mr. Mediateur “Before joining ディープロ, I was just watching movies. One day my friend came and told me that he had a cool idea where we could go. That was ディープロ. For the first time, I came here just for my curiosity and found out this company was from Japan. I wondered why not Hindi because when you look for some tutorials, you can’t miss videos from India. They are the first ones to upload.

In the beginning, we learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Those were the things I’ve already learned so it was easy but once we started Ruby, it was new to me and I feel I improve my skills day by day. Now, I can handle many errors and think it became one of my hobbies. I want to keep growing until I manage to complete graduation.”

プログラミングの活用でまずは全体のIT水準を高めたい

プログラミングをどのように学び、自国のためにどのように活用したいですか？

“How do you want to learn and use programming for your country?”

Mediateurさん「ルワンダでは多くのことが手動で行われています。Webサイトを作って、自動化のために使いたいです。例えば、ホテルを予約したい時、日本ではオンラインで簡単に予約を取れると思います。ルワンダには多くのホテルがあるにも関わらず、たったひとつかふたつのホテルしか、オンライン予約に対応していません。

僕はITの専門学校に通っていますが、毎年登録をしに学校へ行かなければなりません。もし学校に行って手動で登録を済ませなければ、ITのサービスを使うことができないのです。その登録方法も、僕が自動化できることのひとつだと思います。ルワンダ航空やウガンダ航空は独自のWebサイトを持っていて、オンライン予約が可能です。そのようなシステムをさらに改良するのではなく、必要なのは、いまだに手動で行われているシステムを自動化することなんです。

周辺国を見てみると、同じようにITとは程遠い国々があります。エンジニアになったら、その場に留まらず、他の開発できる機会も得ていかなければなりません。また、日本やインド、アメリカなどのより発展している国々もあります。そのような国からは、知識や技術を学んで、彼らと同等のレベルまで行かなければなりません。もし学ぼうとしなければ、成長がそこで終わってしまうからです。」

Mr. Mediateur “In Rwanda, most things are done manually, so I want to create a website and remove those manual systems. For example, if you want to book a hotel, you should be able to book online in Japan. But, here in Rwanda, there are only 1 or 2 hotels that you can book online even though we have many hotels in our country.

I’m a student at an IT school. You have to come on campus and register at the beginning of the year. If you don’t come to school to manually register it, you miss the services in tech. So this is one thing I can change the system of registration manual online. Rwanda Air or Uganda Air already have their website that you can book air ticket online. So, you don’t have to develop them further. What you have to do is to develop those systems done by hands to automatic systems.

If you looked up surrounding countries, there are more not-fully-tech countries. Once you become a developer, you should expand your territories and get new opportunities to develop. Also, there are the countries above you, like Japan, India and the U.S. We can learn from them to achieve their levels. If you are not ready to learn from them, you cannot grow up anymore.”

将来は大物エンジニア

将来の夢を教えてください。

“What is your dream?”

Mediateurさん「高校生の時からエンジニアになることを夢見ていました。プロのエンジニアとして、政府からプロジェクトを任されるほどの人物になりたいです。自国の政府だけでなく、周辺国からも仕事を任されるような有名なエンジニアになりたいです。」

Mr. Mediateur “From my senior, I dreamed to be a programmer. A professional programmer that even the government would ask in their big projects. I want to be a famous programmer that surrounding countries also know and ask for their development.”

有名なエンジニアになれたら、次にしたいことはなんですか？

“What is your next dream after you become a famous programmer?”

Mediateurさん「次にしたいことは、落ち着いて、他の人たちにプログラミングを教えることです。自分の知識をシェアして、彼らには、自分の地位まで登りつめて欲しいです。」

Mr. Mediateur “My next dream is to settle down and teach others programming. I like sharing my knowledge and I want them to be in a position of myself.”

ディープロで勉強しやすい理由

ディープロに何か一言お願いします。

“Please give comments to ディープロ.”

Mediateurさん「このプログラミング教育サービスをルワンダに持ち込んでくれて、本当にありがとうございます。僕は、『分からなければまず読め！』という教え方が好きです。ルワンダでは、読むことを推奨されず、先生が要約されているものを要約し、生徒がそれをさらに要約するんです。また、読んでも分からない時、すぐにメンターに聞くことができるのも気に入っています。もし僕がこのようなビジネスをすることがあれば、ここでの教え方を適用したいと思います。また、野呂さんがよく笑い、いつも楽しそうで、明るい雰囲気にしてくれるのも好きです。ありがとうございます。」

Mr. Mediateur “First of all, I want to thank you for bringing this education system in Rwanda. I like this teaching method: if you don’t know you can read first. In some institutions, they don’t encourage students to read. What the teachers do is to make a summary of the summary and then the students summarize the summary of the summary. That’s the teaching method here in Rwanda. Also, I like when you struggle to understand something, you can call a mentor to ask. If I got a chance to start educating business, I’d like to use this method. Also, I like how you are being in the class. You are always happy and laughing, and the atmosphere is so cheerful. Thank you very much.”
